Dodgers All-Star Facing Extremely Disturbing Situation
During his recovery from an injury, Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Edwin Diaz may face a new challenge in the form of some pretty serious allegations.
USA Today has reported that Diaz and other athletes are accused of participating in illegal cockfighting in Puerto Rico. It should be noted that none of the parties involved have been charged, let alone arrested, with any crimes.
While jockeys Irad Ortiz Jr. and Jose Ortiz have been linked to the story for approximately six months, Diaz’s alleged involvement only surfaced very recently due to an old promotional image showing him wearing a Dodgers uniform at a tournament:
A story published by the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia in March quoted Diaz saying (translated from Spanish), “It’s a pastime I’ve followed since I was a child. It’s legal in Puerto Rico, thank God. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here.”
Cockfighting has been federally banned in the United States and all of its territories for years and has been illegal in Puerto Rico since 2019. However, the blood sport is considered a national source of pride in Puerto Rico, and some even consider it a national sport.
But it’s still illegal, and USA Today noted that the maximum penalty can be up to five years in prison for participants and a year in prison just for being a spectator.
Here are some reactions from fans on social media regarding this disturbing story:
- Watching animals shred each other is “like my home” sadistic creep.
- There’s a special place in hell reserved for folks who enjoy watching animals kill each other for sport and especially those who facilitate it. Disgusting.
- Nothing is gonna happen because Dodger players always get away with crimes
- Dodgers and mlb will cover this up like they covered up ohtani and his gambling which led to his translator being the fall guy
- What an idiot. Get rid of him. Still not sure why we signed this idiot.
How Did Edwin Diaz Land With The Dodgers?

In 2018, Diaz earned a league-leading 57 saves for the Seattle Mariners, making him an All-Star pitcher. He became one of the biggest baseball stars in New York after joining the New York Mets the following year.
Diaz achieved a career-best 1.31 ERA in 2022 with 32 saves in 49 games played. That year, he finished ninth in the voting for the Cy Young award. The injury he sustained at the World Baseball Classic in 2023 caused him have a turbulent 2024 season. In 2025, he had a resurging season for the Mets, earning All-Star honors once again before becoming a free agent.
He would then sign with the Dodgers.
