The Los Angeles Dodgers have been one of the best teams in baseball throughout the 2025 MLB season thus far. With that in mind, there is a lot of belief that they could be very active leading up to the trade deadline in a few weeks.
Right now, the Dodgers hold a 56-38 record. That has them placed at No. 3 in baseball behind just the Detroit Tigers and Houston Astros. They are also just ahead of the Chicago Cubs.
No one knows what Los Angeles will look to do ahead of the deadline. However, there may be some business that they consider attending to first.
At this point in the season, there are questions surrounding the roster. One former top prospect has been rumored to be on the cutting block.
Dodgers’ Ex-Top Prospect Facing Uncertain Future Amid Rumors
Henry Palatellea of Dodgers Way shared one potential move that the team could make. He thinks parting ways with former top outfield prospect James Outman could be on the horizon.
“While he’s 28 now and doesn’t have the same kind of pedigree he had in 2023 when he was one of the team’s hottest prospects and finished third in the year in Rookie of the Year voting, there’s still a chance a team would be interested in taking a chance on him. (He’s hitting .278 with 19 home runs in Triple-A this year),” Palattella wrote. “He could also be expendable as well. The Dodgers have already shown that they don’t view him as a piece of their future, so any team looking to trade with the Dodgers won’t need to twist Los Angeles’ arm to get Outman as a part of their deal.”
Outman’s career simply has not gone according to plan. He’s now 28 years old and it would make sense for the Dodgers to make a move.
So far this season, he has appeared in just 12 games. He has hit two home runs and driven in four RBI’s, batting just .125/.222/.344. Those numbers obviously aren’t a complete season, but they aren’t good in a very limited sample.
Throughout his entire career, Outman has played in 219 Major League games, hitting 30 home runs, driving in 88 RBI’s, and batting .226/.331/.406.
While the future cannot be predicted, Outman could very well be on his way out of town at some point soon.
