Shohei Ohtani Suffers Concerning Injury Against Pirates
In the seventh inning of Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani left the game with inflammation in his left knee, according multiple sources.
Given Ohtani’s importance to the Dodgers, any injury to him will be met with concern, regardless of how precautionary his removal may have been.
Currently, the 31-year-old is hitting .299 with 12 home runs, 39 RBI, 46 runs, six stolen bases, and a .940 OPS. Considering his dominance at the plate, it could be argued that he is currently having a down season offensively, at least compared to his last two seasons (where he hit over 50 home runs and had an OPS above 1.000).
However, Ohtani is also one of the best pitchers in the sport. In 11 starts this season, he has a 6-2 record with a 1.06 ERA, a 0.84 WHIP, and 73 strikeouts in 67.2 innings pitched. Despite the Dodgers’ many talented pitchers, their best hitter has also been the best on the mound.

A six-man rotation has been utilized by the Dodgers this season, which ensures that players like Ohtani, Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki remain fresh throughout the season. Ohtani will not pitch again until Tuesday, June 16. There is hope that today’s injury won’t impact him long-term. However, inflammation injuries are tricky and can linger.
This will certainly be somethign to monitor.
