An MLB reporter was hit by a nasty foul ball at Friday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers. At Camden Yards, Tricia Whitaker worked for Apple TV+ during Baltimore’s 7-4 victory over the Tigers.
Foul balls can always be a concern for on-field reporters. It is inevitable that one will be struck from time to time, as was the case with Tricia this past weekend. On social media, she announced that she had been struck on the wrist by a line drive by Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.

The Orioles provided Whitaker with excellent care. A picture of the team staff wrapping her arm in an ice pack was posted on her social media site. In addition, she shared a video clip of her left hand in an ice bag.
“Good news: @adleyrutschman has elite exit velo. Bad News: my wrist absorbed it.”
“In case anyone was wondering – Adley Rutschman’s exit velo is still elite. My forearm is proof,” she posted on Twitterr/X. “Found out what it feels like to be the injury update instead of reporting it, 10-day IL, forearm discomfort.
“PS I’m fine, thanks to the Orioles’ medical staff for the wrapping of my arm and ice all game!”

During the Memorial Day weekend, Whitaker got some additional rest after Saturday’s game between the two clubs was postponed due to heavy rain that moved across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S.
A double and a line drive to a reporter rounded out Rutschman’s 2-for-5 performance.
