MLB Superstar Leaves Game After Being Hit By Fan-Thrown Ball
Jesus Sanchez of the Blue Jays was injured during Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. His injury, however, was caused by a fan.
An assistant coach and manager John Schneider were with him when he left the game. It appears that the outfielder favors his right hand/wrist. In the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Orioles were leading 6-0 and had two base runners on base, he was hit with the ball. Here is the video:

On replay, Jesus Sanchez seemed to signal the stands, but it wasn’t clear what he was doing. Regardless, Sanchez was hit in the right hand/wrist by a baseball thrown by a fan.
He went down in pain as he was caught off guard by the thrown ball. John Schneider and a member of the training staff checked on Sanchez, who was later removed from the game. In the moments following Sanchez’s exit from the field, he was seen clutching his right arm.
According to reports, the fan who threw the ball at Jesus Sanchez was ejected from the game. It is unclear whether they will face additional consequences.
In an update, Toronto stated that the outfielder was removed due to a “right wrist contusion.” X-rays for a fracture were negative. Schneider was asked about the injury following the game:
“Never know what you’re going to see at the ballpark. He was talking with a — I was just told — a 12-year-old kid, kind of going back and forth. I think in a playful manner. Almost like a ‘hey, let’s play catch.’
Through an interpreter, Sanchez addressed questions about the incident following the game. He said, “It was a misunderstanding. I wasn’t trying to play catch right there with them. I just looked at them, and they thought maybe that I wanted them to throw the ball back to me.”
