The Los Angeles Dodgers are once again one of the best teams in baseball. As the MLB trade deadline continues to draw closer, it would not be shocking to see the front office look to get aggressive once again.
Following a run to the World Series and knocking off the New York Yankees for a championship last year, the Dodgers are looking to repeat. Adding another piece or two could be needed in order to make that happen.
One area that Los Angeles could look to improve would be its starting rotation.
Injuries have wreaked havoc on the Dodgers’ rotation this season. In order to win another World Series, they cannot afford to have a weak rotation. Could they consider making a blockbuster trade to acquire another top-tier starter?
That is what one MLB writer has suggested.
Los Angeles Dodgers Linked to Wild Trade for Paul Skenes Before 2025 Deadline
ESPN’s David Schoenfield has suggested a wild blockbuster trade between Los Angeles and the Pittsburgh Pirates that would acquire 23-year-old superstar starting pitcher Paul Skenes.

In his suggested trade, the Dodgers would ship out catcher Dalton Rushing (No. 14 prospect), right-hander Jonah Tong (No. 50 prospect), right-hander Nolan McLean, infielder Ronny Mauricio, and outfielder Carson Benge in exchange for Skenes.
That would be a huge package to give up for one player, but Skenes would be more than worth it.
During the 2025 MLB season with the Pirates, Skenes has made 20 starts. He has compiled a 4-8 record to go along with a 2.01 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP, a 4.4 K/BB ratio, and 121 innings pitched. Those numbers don’t do justice to what Skenes has actually accomplished this season.
If Los Angeles was to acquire Skenes, its World Series odds would skyrocket. He’s the kind of pitcher that can completely change the outlook for a rotation.
While it’s not likely that the Dodgers will be able to or even have an opportunity to trade for Skenes, it’s an interesting idea that has definitely drummed up some discussion.
