The Miami Marlins are coming off a 2024 season where they had the third worst record in baseball, finishing with 62 wins and 100 losses. Last year, they were without their ace Sandy Alcantara as he spent the year recovering from tommy john surgery. In 2025, the Marlins reportedly will use him strategically, which potentially will set him up to be a highly coveted trade piece this year.
Sandy Alcantara will be on an innings limit in 2025

Per Jeff Passan, Alcantara will be on an innings limit in 2025. This has led contenders to believe that he would be available to pitch in October, if they acquire him. Alcantra, age 29, won the Cy Young award in 2022, is a two time All-Star, boasts a career 3.32 ERA, and has 12 career complete games underneath his belt.
The Miami Marlins will command a hefty price for Alcantara, if they trade him

Teams looking to trade for Alcantara will have to be prepared to give up a lot in a trade package. The right-handed starting pitcher is scheduled to make $17.3 million each of the next two seasons and then has a $21.0 million club option attached to the 2027 season. If he returns to pre-surgery form, acquiring him with that price tag will be a bargain.
