The San Francisco Giants have been a fairly competitive team throughout the first half of the 2025 MLB season thus far. However, it has been clear that they aren’t in the top-tier group of contenders.
Ahead of the upcoming trade deadline, the Giants are going to have to make a decision. Do they want to get aggressive and buy talent to make a run down the stretch of the season? Or, do they simply stand pat and wait to make more impact additions during the offseason?
Should they choose to buy, there are quite a few options that San Francisco could pursue.
Adding another bat should be one of the priorities for the Giants if they choose to become a buyer. One intriguing name has been suggested as a possible target for them.
San Francisco Giants Linked to Big Trade for $10.9 Million Infielder
Mark Feinsand of MLB.com has named San Francisco as a potential trade suitor for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor.
“Arizona has climbed back into the playoff race with a good start to June, leaving the Diamondbacks in striking distance of a Wild Card spot and still in the conversation in the NL West,” Feinsand wrote. “But Naylor is one of more than a half-dozen impending free agents on the roster, and given that a number of teams could use a big corner-infield bat, it’s possible that Arizona could move Naylor (or Eugenio Suárez) and his expiring contract to address other needs.”

Naylor being on a one-year deal could make him expendable for the Diamondbacks. If he does hit the trade block, the Giants would be a prime landing spot.
Throughout the 2025 MLB season thus far, Naylor has been productive. He has played in 86 games for Arizona, hitting 11 home runs to go along with 58 RBI’s and a slash line of .295/.364/.460.
Those numbers would be a big boost for the San Francisco lineup. He would also be an affordable target for the Giants.
He may not end up being of interest to San Francisco, but he’s an option worth keeping an eye on. Naylor would also be an intriguing target for quite a few other teams around the league.
