The Tampa Bay Rays have been hit hard with injuries to their starting rotation over the years. In just the past few seasons players like Shane Baz, Jeffrey Springs, and Drew Rasmussen have undergone surgery and are finally expected back at different points during the 2024 campaign. These injuries have opened up opportunities for other players.
Off-season addition Tyler Alexander has won a spot in the Tampa Bay Rays starting rotation.
Southpaw Tyler Alexander was claimed off of waivers by the Rays in November. He previously had pitched for the Detroit Tigers in which over the past five seasons he accumulated a 4.38 ERA as both a starter and long reliever. A solid spring training with his new ball club has resulted in him earning a temporary spot in the starting rotation.
How did Tyler Alexander perform during Spring Training?
Officially Alexander pitched nine innings of baseball that counted towards his 2024 Spring Training statistics. Over those innings he gave up just two runs, one walk, and struck out five. Per Marc Topkin Alexander did pitch six innings during a minor league game earlier this week.
Who else is in the Tampa Bay Rays 2024 starting rotation?
Alongside Alexander will be Zach Eflin, Aaron Civale, Zack Littel, and Ryan Pepiot. Marc Topkin also indicated that Alexander will pitch the fourth game of the 2024 season. That game will come on Sunday, March 31 and will be the final game of four against the Toronto Blue Jays.
