Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts is on a tear to begin the 2024 season. Through five games his statistics have been compared to other greats such as Babe Ruth and Barry Bonds. Here we take a look at three of his absurd statistics.
Mookie Betts and Babe Ruth are the only two players to ever accomplish this specific feat.
Per OptaStats since RBI became official just two MLB players have had a four game span with the following statistics: at least nine hits, at least nine RBI, at least six walks, at least four home runs, and a .600 batting average. Those players are Mookie Betts and Babe Ruth. Ruth accomplished this during a four game stretch in July of 1932.
Mookie Betts OPS through five games ranks among the best in which Barry Bonds is the all-time leader.
In a teams first five games of the season and a minimum of 20 plate appearances Sarah Langs indicates that Betts has the fourth highest OPS ever with 2.109. Barry Bonds is the all-time leader with 2.484. In between Betts and Bonds is 2006 Chris Shelton at 2.477 and 2015 Adrian Gonzalez with 2.338.
In Los Angeles Dodgers franchise history Mookie Betts has the third most RBI through five games.
Lastly Sarah Langs also pointed out that Betts is third on a Dodgers franchise record leaderboard with 10 RBI through five games. Ahead of him is 1974 Jim Wynn with 11 RBI and 1953 Roy Campanella with 12.
