Boston Red Sox outfielder Tyler O’Neill has continued what seemingly is an Opening Day tradition for him over to his new ball club. The 28 year old was traded by the St. Louis Cardinals this off-season and his eighth inning home run on Thursday set a MLB record.

On Opening Day this year against the Seattle Mariners Tyler O’Neill not only delivered a go-ahead two run home run in the eighth inning, but he set a MLB record with his fifth consecutive long ball on Opening Day. His previous four came with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Tyler O’Neill was previously tied with three other MLB players with four consecutive home runs on Opening Day.
Before Thursday’s home run to set a MLB record, Tyler O’Neill was tied with three other players with four consecutive Opening Day games with home runs. Those players were Todd Hundley (1994-1997), Gary Carter (1977-80), and Yogi Berra (1955-1958).
